How headlights deteriorate

Over time, headlights become cloudy and yellowed, and often go matte, which negatively affects driving in night conditions and spoils the overall aesthetics of the car.

The headlights fitted to modern cars and motorcycles are made of plastic, which makes them sensitive to external factors. For this reason, all manufacturers apply a special protective coating to headlights to prevent the negative impact of solar radiation.

However, after a few years of exposure to sun, wind, dust, stone impacts on the road, as well as due to wear and sudden temperature changes, this protective layer deteriorates, goes matte and gives the headlights a yellow tint.

Professional headlight polishing

All damage on the outer surface of the headlights, such as cloudiness and scratches, can be completely removed. With professional polishing, old headlights can "see" again and shine with a new gloss.

Polishing the headlights from the outside removes oxidation, cloudiness and scratches and increases light intensity, so the headlights will look like new again.

For headlight polishing, the Black Glass service uses professional tools for polishing sensitive surfaces and the highest-quality 3M polishing pastes.

The headlight polishing process

The restoration process at the Black Glass service takes about 20 minutes per headlight, is done without removing the headlights, and consists of the following steps:

  1. Protecting the parts of the car around the headlights so that no damage occurs during polishing.
  2. Manual cleaning with fine sandpaper that removes the damaged layers on the headlights.
  3. Machine polishing of the headlight surface with a special machine for sensitive surfaces, using several different polishing pastes.
  4. Applying a ceramic protective coating that prevents the headlight from deteriorating. And if you want to protect the headlights permanently, instead of a coating we recommend clear protective films.

Installing protective film on headlights

The most effective protection of headlights from external influences is achieved by installing clear protective films. These films are becoming increasingly popular because they protect the headlights from scratches, salt, sand, dirt and stone impacts on the road.

Quality protective films are optically crystal clear, so they represent a practically invisible shield. When the films are applied by certified installers, they are guaranteed to retain clarity and preserve the factory shine of the headlights.

LLumar protective films contain a self-healing mechanism. This practically means that you do not have to replace the film when it gets damaged, because it will regenerate itself due to the action of the sun’s heat. This film is also used to protect the car body.

The headlight film installation process

The Black Glass service installs protective films on all types of headlights and tail lights. These films are self-adhesive and are shaped using a hot-air heating technique (heat gun).

Protective films are mostly applied to new or freshly polished headlights. If the headlights are damaged, we recommend polishing them before installing the film.

If after a certain time you wish to remove the film from the headlights or replace it with a new one, the procedure is simple and the headlights are not damaged.

The process of installing protective films on headlights at the Black Glass service takes about 15 min per headlight, with a 5-year warranty.
